Poor excuse for a company

My complaint has been marked as "resolved". IT ISN'T RESOLVED.

There hasn't been any response from Reliance Standard and Pissed Customer marked it as if it's all good. I took the time to write a review and make a video.

Nothing happened. I wasted my time for nothing.

Updated by user Oct 09, 2021

I haven't heard from Reliance Standard. Not one person has responded in any way. They are ignoring the situation.

Original review Sep 09, 2021
I was put on LTD by my doctor. I paid into Reliance STD.

insurance through my employer for over two years. I had to fight just a long to receive benefits, going as far as reporting them to congressmen, senators and the Dept. of Insurance. Rel.

Std. was then saying I wasn't sending them the required paperwork. I started sending documents so that someone would need to sign for them. Suddenly, after approval, my payments were being sent to an address that I hadn't lived at for over four years and my checks were being returned to them by the postal service.

They then made me pay back money they claimed was overpaid to me ($2000), or they would stop payments altogether. After paying that money, my payments were reduced to $100 per month because I was approved for SSDI. This is a fraudulent company, and they should be shut down completely and every person that is receiving payments from them should be allowed to have their accounts moved to a reliable insurance company that won't screw them and also continue to receive the benefits that they are entitled to. over.

Lapsed account and service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My quarter payment was mailed 2/26/2021 (by due date) and not cashed until 5/3. Was it the USPS? Did an AmWins department sit on it? I received a letter 5/3 indicating my coverage lapsed. A customer for over 20 years and no prior issue but 1, easily resolved. Age discrimination? Take the money and run after a term period? BAD customer service.

Cons:
  • Quick to term

Preferred solution: Review accounts and customer history before determining final discontinuation of coverage. I did my part. What the USPS or AmWins does/does not do is out of my control and other customers' control.

I worked 21 years for a company and developed Peripheral Neuropathy following Cervical Fusion surgery. I was forced into disability and have landed with this *** stain of an insurance company. Reliance Standard is cold hearted and are constantly making it difficult for the sick and disable to receive their benefits. They should Avoid be sued for malpractice and malfeasance. I will gladly testify.

Medical Insurance

Do not cover anything medical related except a daily visit fee. Pay all this money out of your paycheck a month for medical insurance that does you no good to even have. Still have to pay everything out of pocket. This company has no business being in the medical department. Only good for life insurance.

If First Reliance Standard is your insurance company get a lawyer ASAP if you submit a claim!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
They cannot be trusted, none of the agents you work with are sincere, though they put on a sugary fake sympathy act. They make you duplicate your actions as far as obtaining records, and find a reason almost every week to delay your check. My injured sister set up direct deposit but the check hadnt shown on her account after two weeks. I called the adjuster for her the first week and they claimed it took a week to set up. Though that was a lie,at that point you have to wait a bit longer for lack of proof. At week two I called on her behalf, and they said they couldnt read the handwriting and the bank routing numbers were not clear. They were caught in a lie this time, the adjusting agent, a woman Miss fake sweetness, actually tried to stifle a laugh, when I said that the handwriting issue was a fabrication, as the form was filled in on an online program,in which you type in the numbers. The check was deposited in 3 days and we were upset with their blatantly fraudulent antics. They are hoping you dont have a friend or relative to keep up with their demands for copies of records they already have or easily find. Always, they pretend they need more. They try to cut you off of benefits and wait and see if you accept it. They want you to drop your request. I was able to contact my sisters nurse practitioner and ask her to send a note co signed by the doctor to state the seriousness of my sisters condition. I told them I wished on her behalf, to have contact with their supervisor to appeal their initial rejection of payment, and subsequent rejection after some months, though the neck injuries are permanent. Though eventually my sister received workmans comp also, they then then wanted their overpayment. I was told by the workmens comp lawyer she hired that even if you were eventually awarded workmens comp for those months, thus getting a few extra months payments, the insurance company never took anyone to court for the overlapped funds. If they did go to court, the most they could do is receive 10 percent of the your current weekly income until the funds were recovered. Recently, the higher courts ruled that making an injured worker currently living on reduced earnings, was against the laws that caused undue hardship and did not have to be paid back. I sent them ,the disability Ins company,a statement from her doctor that stated she was currently totally disabled and they had not a leg to stand on, and was able to write a brief appeal to their supervisory board. They stopped sending threatening letters. Insurance companies like First Reliace Standard try never to pay a claim . My advice for anyone who does not immediately receive an insurance disability payment, is to call a lawyer with a good reputation to handle your case. The insurance company will not try so many tricks. My sister, when eligibility was nearing for workmens comp coverage to kick in, obtained the services of a lawyer who has a super reputation and she did not suffer the agony of dealing directly with sneaky insurance adjusters for long, and received her benefits exactly on time. The insurance adjuster at the workmens comp company was snide and threatening and was not happy being thwarted when the lawyer at her insurance company told her to start sending workmens comp.payments after being contacted by my lawyer. Sadly, a lawyer is needed for any disability case, short or long, in most cases, but they need no money up front, but collect 20% of whatever moneys the insurance companies have been holding back. The insurance companies prey on the injured even if your employer directed them to pay you, they dont want to pay your claim,as at that point it comes from their funds. Check out your lawyer thoroughly online before calling them.

They are giving the run around and not sending the money

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My brother requested the money from his annuity account. They told him they would send it the next day overnight mail and charge him $25. This was Mar. 16. Has not received check. Then they said it would take 7-10 days to process after they said they were overnighting it. That time passed, then they said they put it in the regular mail on Mar. 31, did not have a tracking # and could not tell him to whom or where it was mailed. Still not received. Now they say he has to wait til next Weds. or Thursday. This is bizarre and criminal. Need help! tt

I've read many negative customer reviews about this Company but I would like to be the exception. My employer uses Reliance standards for their short-term disability and after reading all the negative responses on the company I must say I was a bit concerned. It's been three months now that I've been off work due to surgery and i've not had one issue with them even needing to call the early on they were very polite and got back to me promptly. I am very grateful for this company!

I agree, my job uses reliance I am on long term disability, been since September. Only issues I had was early on and it was how long it took for them to review my medical records to approve LTD.

My claims worker was great and quick response to any questions.

Customer service on the other hand was not very knowledgeable about the process and about how long things would take to process they would say couple days which in actuality was 3 to 4 weeks. After I was approved I have had no issue so far.

Their billing process is so inaccurate and confusing that non of their AR analysts or customer service reps understand what to do. Details on a bill will amount to a specific dollar amount, but when you go to pay, you are forced to pay a different amount. Regularly receiving pay adjustments, which is fair, but when asking for support or details behind the adjustment, we just get blind stares. Sent a request in the beginning of July, followed up multiple times, and they still have not taken any action to resolve. Caught them lying to in an email thread... Rep told us that the issue was escalated weeks ago, meanwhile the thread shows it was escalated the same day. Their rates might be low, but not worth the value. Save yourself any headaches. If I could give 0 stars, I would.

How can a stroke not be an acute condition

Individual had acute CVA. Was viable human being working until onset. A stroke suffered by an individual is suffered by ALL loved ones. Took policy out with this ridiculous company upon employment. When medical event occurred, began process immediately so that there might be no lost income- the stroke was not the fight of our life- the income we should have appreciated immediately was the problem. So much stress is involved when something like this occurs- not only was that NOT acknowledged- but we had to keep doing the leg work for this company during an unbelievable stressful time. They have a third party that they probably pay a lot of money to - their job is to attain all records for the patient trying to collect on their policy- they never collected. In spite of all we went through, I, a family member had to do all the collecting of records while taking care of my loved one who suffered the stroke- not a pre-existing condition. Something is so wrong with short term disability within this company,. The person I dealt with was Amber Patterson. I’m certain she is trying to do her job according to protocols set up by Reliance Standard - she followed a standard set up by the company. After persevering three months of obtaining redundant records and calling just about every day, we finally got our measly 6 weeks of pay. Wasn’t acute stroke enough to endure?
